Hi, Reader This is a project to map a long defence wall and bases along it found within the Western Sahara, I will be regularly updating with new additions to the new .KMZ file and removing the old ones as i go, all of my updates will be on the bottom of this post Please enjoy this mystical adventure as we map the hundreds of miles of this wall. Thanks to Syzygy for starting this project by mapping a major part of the wall and i hope to see more additions from him and others in the future The most helpful thing anyone could do is place markers on any bases Base coding as follows Unidentified base: leave markers blank If any large identifying numbers are found in bases such as writing in sand add this to the marker and place marker on the spot the identifier is (EG: Base M 12) (EG: Unknown Symbol in sand) Please do not edit any lines as i will do this myself all i would like you guys to do is add base and interesting objects markers, When making additions please put them into a folder within the .kmz marked with your username as Syzygy and I have done so i can review them for addition. When i will update i will credit anyone who makes additions so don't forget to leave your username Also don't forget to get the latest .KMZ before updating This can be found below this line Western Sahara Walls Version 0.6.kmz (170.16 KB) Second thanks to Syzygy for the most recent update -Wasalsa2

About all those sites I can't say, but the one linked in the KML file looks like it might just be some antiquated community. It bears striking similarity to some of the sites of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico (in particular, at 36.050137,-107.9300474). It wouldn't be too surprising if people could live hear even without modern amenities. See Amgala (26 04 36.51N, 11 47 02.17W), which looks like it has some modern buildings, but you can see what looks like less modern structures. Wikipedia also says it was an oasis ( read more), suggesting there is water and plant life (you can see the plants even in the satellite imagery, and in panoramio photos in nearby locations).

did not think there would be a chain of hundreds of farms across the hot and arid desert so have followed the line up to the north, passed a lot of structures like the one placemarked by you and finally arrived to THIS panoramio shot at 27° 3'55.00"N, 11°31'5.00"Wby best bet these manmade structures are parts of a network of military facilities along the Moroccan Western Sahara Wall
From the ghost town of La Güera up to the Algerian border tripoint and over, through thousands of kilometers the desert is full of that.

hi from the Cornubian batholith! when i hear about Cornwall i always think of an absent friend, a very good member of this community far back from the Keyhole era. the find was yours, and it was mine to find out. -you could have done too. find and investigate: - this what exactly is the trail to follow around here. best, g meanwhile have found an oGEC posting might be related, and started to draw up defence lines connecting all the fortified sites. ***kmz attachment removed and posted by wasalsa2***well, 'Western Sahara Wall' file name could have been misleading as far as this huge fortified grid seem to have more branches than a simple wall, so the plural "Walls" probably is better. feel free to continue mapping with this file, edit Original Post (OP title should be changed before all) and attach yourself! (i'll keep an eye on it so -if you do so-, i'll remove this attachment to avoid duplication, BTW is accepted on this board) cheers

Interesting, syzygy, a long time ago I made a path of all parts of the wall that I could be sure of, but never posted it in the oGEC. I might still have it, I'll look and see if there are parts I could fill in. More recently, I traced much of the iron ore railroad from the mines to Nouadhibou on the coast. I guess I'll finish it!

...parts of the wall that I could be sure of..., ...much of the iron ore railroad... That is great Diane! Both would be fine! What a good comeback from your periodical missings, we can experience nowdays! OP wasalsa2 seems to got some extra advantage by the start.(: (as all the newbies ever have joined this community I think always got most warm welcome and help from staff and members as well) We stay tuned!

you do not have to ask such questions here.
no GE layers information available? -just post your find then, and if anyone care to take a look, will reply to your question. (quite sure, someone will soon!) you have already done? then give a link!
btw, by my style it is no good to take up such (off topic) conversations in forum threads with such well defined subject. do not misunderstand me: it is your own businness! I only do advise!
and of course I do care to take a look. -that is the reason why I am a member of GE Community. (:
best, g

hi wasalsa2 (if still around)! probably you have alrady done meanwhile, but I attach here 160 more posts from the easternmost and northeasternmost sections of the defense line system as an update for your 0.7 version file. (; WSW.updates.kmz (9.66 KB) Now Western Sahara Wall System is nearly complete I think. (only the southernmost section needs some additions) cheers!
