A massive explosion destroyed the San Pablito Fireworks Market , the most famous in Mexico. Tultepec is in the northern outskirts of Mexico City. So far, 26 people have been found dead, scores more injured, according to Federal Police. Most of the market stalls were leveled and burned-out cars surrounded the market. Explosions started at about 2:30 p.m. and continued long afterward.
Traditional Mexican Christmas and New Year celebrations include firework displays, so the market was full of shoppers.

Luís Felipe Puente, the national civil protection coordinator, said some homes nearby were also damaged. The scene remained dangerous, and he asked people not to come within three miles of the explosion to avoid hampering the emergency response.
