Well done, krenek and hhgygy. Here is a clue for others. If you googled Triste-le-Roy, you found that it is a villa in a fantasy city. However, the author had an existing city in mind when he wrote the short story. Triste-le-Roy is based on a hotel, not a villa, that was demolished in the 1950s (the story was first published in 1942). Here it is on an old map of the part of the suburb where the hotel stood (oriented to the north): The statue of the goddess, her right arm still attached, stood at the entrance. “Triste-le-Roy” has gone, but the statue is still there, at pretty much the same location.

Thanks for pictorial clues. There was no need for textual clues;

Well done all! The villa Triste-le-Roy is the place where detective Erik Lönrott, a would-be Sherlock Holmes, is lured to his death by his criminal opponent Red Scharlach in Jorge Luis Borges’ story Death and the Compass. The fictitious villa was modelled on the hotel La Delicia (sometimes called Las Delicias) in Adrogué, a southern suburb of Buenos Aires, where Borges used to spend the summer with his parents. The statue of the goddess Diana is the only thing that is left of the hotel. Location: 34.79918°S, 58.39008°W

...guess where his grave is located!? Borges' grave ... is located in Geneva, in the cimetière de Plainpalais aka the cimetière des rois (46°12′07″N 6°08′11″E) He had good memories of the days when he lived and studied there as a teenager. And a funny cemetery it is
