Saving photos of large areas but with high resolution

Does anyone know of a product/software that works with GE and allows a person to outline a large area of interest and allow for higher resolutions? As an example, to view a large area it might be necessary to view the area of interest at an altitude of 5000 ft. but in order to get the level of detail/resolution desired it is necessary to view from an altitude of 500 feet. Therefore in order to generate pictures at 500 feet altitude it would require that the user save a whole bunch of pictures and then stitch them together to generate a single file. There was a software package call GEOCP which automatically took the required pictures at the desired altitude for a large area of interest but it is no longer supported and has not been updated since 2008 and as such will not work with the current versions of GE. Therefore I would like to know if anyone knows of another solution.
