While surveying the Asian "countryside", I found this. Looks to me like a base on the side of a tall hill or mountain. ? Placemark.kmz (774 B) anythingcrazy

Hi Anything Crazy. Looks like First Base to me. Seriously, do you really think that these three roofless structures, over 10 miles from the nearest road, look to you like some kind of base, or anything but the remains of some kind of facility for collecting / processing minerals from the adjacent playa? If you're just making a joke, I apologize. If you tell me to shut up again, I'll say Donald Trump like things about your mother. Attachments:Which Base.kmz (1.06 KB)

Sorry, I did not understand very well the message in English, all I'm saying is that human activity seems in the zone ...

Sorry, I did not understand very well the message in English, all I'm saying is that human activity seems in the zone ... Sorry Ramon. I should have realized from your name and the location of some of your posts that there was a good possibility that English was for you a second language. All I meant by my reply was that I had included the area that you were referring to in the view of one of my placemarks. It seemed to me that the fact that most of the buildings I found in the immediate area seemed not to have roofs suggested that most of the human activity in the area had happened in the past. I was testing that idea, and in the process of following one of the primitive roads that led to the dry lake, I found at least two object that appear to be vehicles. Whether or not things are still happening at this playa, the playa 35 km east has a lot going on. I take most of what I see to be evaporation ponds, as might be used for harvesting salt. There are also villages called Qijiaojingzhen and Lv Shan Bao (try saying those after your had a few). But the place where human activity has made the greatest impact on the landscape in on the talus south of the Bogda Shan mountains. The rail line and the four-lane highway labeled G30 (the modern equivalent of the Silk Road?) passes by many towns and industrial (mining?) sites. The thing that I noticed most dramatically was the large areas crisscrossed with grid and other geometric lines. My best guess is that these were created by mineral exploration, searching for deposits worth mining. I drew a crude shape around 3500 km2 before I got bored and stopped, but you could extend the shape to the east to at least twice the size. One of the most interesting things I found was a large double X shaped area. It's too small, I think, for an airport. If they're runways, there only about half a mile long. Whatever it is, there are a lot of pretty shapes painted on it. Light aircraft, I guess, might land there, but I spotted none on the ground. I placemarked it (in the revised attachment) as Space Port Ice Mosley. Anybody have a guess what it's for? As far as your question about the white spot you found on Mars is concerned, there are a lot of possibilities. Many unexpected "objects" are the result of low resolution imagery, or flaws in the digital imagery, or sometimes a bit of something (like a speck of dust) on a physical photo. There are lots of Mars images posted on line. You know the latitude and longitude coordinates, so it you can find better imagery, you could probably compare that to what you see in GE. Another possibility also occurred to me. The spot you picked is very near the polar "ice cap" and some of the nearby spots were crescent-shaped and looked like they might be gas or water ice on the shady surface of small craters. Thanks for the information and shared the data.
Curiously cars in the area perhaps only curious visitors?
And thanks again for the information about Mars.
I like me look for extrain images on Youtube, but I prefer random browsing in GE (I love streetview).
And really, mi first language its galician... but I emigrate to Colombia. Then galician, spanish and try to do it well on english...

I figured it was probably some facility for minerals. When id I tell you to shut up? Oh yeah, then. Nah, this was just a last ditch effort for ANYTHING new on The Other Sentient Side. P.S. Well, then, if you're willing to call three dilapidated buildings on the edge of a dry lake in western China "a base," just so you can post something in the TOSS forum, what did you make of the truly puzzling location I placemarked as Space Port Ice Mosley? It seems to me that there are plenty of really interesting things to be seen in Google Earth without posting your fantasies about the mundane. Those words were deleted from my vocabulary when I started teaching over 5 decades ago, but I'm tempted, just so I could get a sample of your best shot.
Don't neglect to have a look at the masterful analysis of Frank McVey, who is anything but crazy.
