What are the purpose of ads being on proboards ?
One can use adblock plus, to disable them, proboards staff has problems with
blocking their ads and ask to disable adblock plus.
Are the ads have any relation to the community, apparently not.
Recently I visited a website, when I logged in, that website I had visited was being
advertised in the ad banner in this community. Asking to do a survey about their products.
Just click on the ad and do your shopping from this community. Anyhow, isn't advertising
or having ads prohibited in this community. and why would anybody pay to have the ads removed.

The purpose of ads on any forum is to generate revenue to pay for the running of the platform, and, generate income for the owners.
It's the way of the World.
Adblock plus interferes with the purpose of allowing and running ads for the owner/s of the forum.

The relationship of the ads is not related to the forum, but, they are related to the members usage of the Internet.

Yes, advertising is prohibited in this Community, the platform on which we communicate doesn't prohibit it.
A lot of people pay to remove ads because they find them offensive, distracting, and annoying.
It is the way of the World.

The banner ads here are part of the T&C's of Proboards as this is a free forum, we do have costs for attachments size and various other add-ons we have used on this one. Anyone can pay to have the ads removed and they get removed for everyone for a time or page views. It is also to be noted that the use of ad-blockers is against their T&C's and they reserve the right to ban anyone found abusing it, including Admin.  I would prefer no to have them, but it's not cost affective for us, at this time, to pay for it. So at the moment, the 2 options are put up with them and ignore or for members to pay to remove them ( I have recently paid out of my own pocket for a month/50,000 views, the view count lasted 15 days.) . |

I am curious, since proboards uses ads as default, yet removing them cost money, and using any ad blocker will result in being ban. Why proboard for this community? Yes! Its free. Yet phpbb uses no ads in their forum, yet admin's can add or remove ads from their forum. There are no warnings when using ad blocker like here. The forum admins can only use ads that only apply to phpbb terms, any ads that link to pornography, illegal sites will be removed and a ban will occur. The staff constantly monitors what ad is allowed in the forum as stated >> "All advertisements will be screened by the phpBB.com staff and we reserve the right to reject any campaign that we find unsuitable for this site." << >> As Stated << |

Why proboard for this community?
I set this up after been given very short notice on the oGEC closure, we didn't even know if was going to work. I chose proboards as it was the easiest at the time and I'm not a web wiz.
Our wizard Tek was not even aware at that time.
What I can say is that a dot com site is under development, and if that works, this will all be migrated there, but it may be a year off yet.
EDIT: I have put a lot of my personal money into this and the dot com site, so please donate if you want to help.
