A recent 'NOVA' program documented the move of the Gay Head historic 154 year old light-house from its precarious position at the edge of Marthas Vineyard crumbling cliffs to a position of safety 134 feet (40 meters) further from the ocean. The move was carried out in the summer of 2015 and GE was lucky enough that the satellite caught the action in mid-move. The white square is the concrete pad where the light house will sit; the tracks on which it will slide have not yet been laid. It will be safe for at least a century and a half in its new position. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_Head_Lightwww.mvtimes.com/2015/06/03/gay-head-lighthouse-move-is-complete/A Light House on the Move..kmz (1.22 KB)

That's great, Larry. Did you wonder, as I do, why they didn't move it back even further while they were at it? There is plenty of room for it. It seems with a rising ocean it would be a good idea.
It's so interesting when the satellites catch something happening besides traffic. In my small city, a well-known arson fire was in seen in progress in the middle of town in 2011. (I should post it in Historical Imagery.)
