Just 4 minutes before the 7 pm evening news began tonight, the volcano Sakurajima erupted is a spectacular night display. The volcano is one of the most active in Japan, and the immediate assessment of one expert who was also viewing the eruption on the news, was that it was about the same size of the most recent one of September of last year. So far, no damage or injuries have been reported. In fact, as of this posting, nothing has been reported online, but if you'll enter something like "2016 桜島爆発 sakurajima volcano eruption" into a news search, something is bound to appear soon. The evening news spent over 20 minutes showing the same footage and saying the same things over and over, so we missed most of the rest of the news, including the latest outrageous rantings of Donald Trump. But what the hey, we don't need the Donald. We've got Kim Jong-un right next door, who is even more beloved. Edit: the next morningTHIS STORY from The Japan Times is now one of many that are online.
