Why you should always make backups.

Here's a cautionary tale for you all.

In August, I suffered a catastrophic hard drive failure. None of the data on the drive was recoverable.
To my horror I found that I hadn't backed up "My Places" in GE since the end of April.
Although I have a regular backup, it only backed up the contents of the Windows 7 library folders.

I was able to pull back updates of my published collections via the forums, but any subsequent work on those collections and all my unpublished collections were lost.

It has taken me nearly 3 months to restore that previous 4 months of work. Even now, I cannot be sure I have found all the details I had before.

So, if you have something in GE that you have put many hours into compiling, make sure you back it up regularly. Mine is now copied to an SD-card that I never remove every time the machine boots. It is also included in a weekly backup to my NAS.

Look out for updates to all my published collections and some new collections in the coming days.

Ouch, I'm really sorry to hear that V6  But glad you managed to recreate most things.

I know I'm not very good at doing backups either, but you're quite right of course.

OH, I agree totally, one of my cat's pissed on my main computer, took out the hard drive, graphics card and motherboard. And I became lazy and forgot to keep things backed up. I now have a 6Gb ssd drive in my new main computer that backs everything up once a week.

Ugh! I am not diligent about backups! Well, OK, I'll try...
