Today's Street View cruise around N.W. Russia really paid off with this discovery in the city of Arkhangelsk. In my opinion, it's a very well made model (rather than a toy) of a straddle carrier, which is used on waterfront loading docks, in lumber mills and other industrial settings. Arkhangelsk has plenty of those kinds of industires. This one looks like the type used to move a load of milled lumber rather than a shipping container, which requires very tall carriers. Also seen is a crane-like machine, but it does not show as well. Take a look at the location and see if you can get any clues about what might be in that building. (Edit: Searched the logo on the building CM3 and only came up with "cubic cm." G/cm3 is "grams per cubic cm," so, density.) Model straddle carrier.kmz (851 B)

Many years ago I worked at Hyster Company in Portland OR where they made these Straddle Carrier's. Talk about memories flooding back.

Oh, yes, good old Hyster. I saw quite a few of those around when I was a child, not so much now that the lumber industry is mostly gone in S. Oregon.
Thanks for stooping by, jimt1.
