Status of Google Earth Application?

Hi all,

New here. I read that the Google Earth Application Program Interface (API) and Plug-In software will be retired on December 12, 2015. I am not an API user, and no longer use the Google Earth Plug-in for any websites, but use Google Earth frequently. Is there a danger of the Google Earth application going away any time soon? (same question for Google Earth Pro). I hope not!!
