Multiple attacks in Paris

Gunmen and bombers attacked busy restaurants, bars and a concert hall at locations around Paris on Friday, killing dozens of people in what a shaken President Francois Hollande described as an unprecedented terrorist attack.

 

Reuters breaking news. In one location, the Bataclan theater, so many were killed that the death toll is not yet known for certain, but it could be over 100. CNN television reports "153 confirmed dead" in Paris so far, "gunmen still at large."

The attached file had placemarks on the five locations listed so far on the BBC news website.  It has been revised to include a sixth location.

Location of 11-18-15 St Denis Raid

I am not certain which building (or buildings) the two raided apartments are located in, but the location is approximately accurate. The three locations marked by camera icons are places near the location where news reports showed activity during the raid, and Rue du Corbillon is mentioned in one news report, so I suppose the location is near where it intersects with the apparently unnamed pedestrian street where the raid took place.

I will not attempt to relay any of the complex story. The details of the events are still unfolding, and no doubt much more will be revealed as the investigation continues. It is doubtful that there are many anywhere in the world who are not familiar with it; certainly few of them will find their way to this post.

A video published on the CNN Website  ("Paris attack ringleader still missing after raid" 03:04) shows shots of the building where the raid took place. I am reasonably certain that the revised file has the placemark on the correct building, which is located near the south end of Rue du Corbillon, and not on the intersecting unnamed pedestrian street where I had originally placed the mark. Rue du Corbillon is visible (mostly) on Google Street View, and the building may be seen by clicking on the path that I have placed on the street.

Belgium has placed Brussels at the highest terror alert level, citing a "serious and imminent threat that requires taking specific security measures as well as specific recommendations for the population."
