I have just gotten back onto google earth/moon after not being on it for awhile........It appears to me it is not as clear as it used to be and we cant zoom in with clarity like we used to. Am I the only one? Also, Is it only me or what? Almost every impact from meteors or whatever look like they are straight down from the sky. I find that hard to believe.... Also, There are many many cones on this moon that are just too darn perfect. How is that? Anyone else noticed it? I just found out I can pin things on the moon. Before I found a perfectly six sided crater........cant find it now..... anyone seen it? jim

The Moon is not any less clear, but it is unfortunately no more clear. There is much newer imagery from LRO that Google is not using. It may be a licensing problem, but in general Google has not added much to their Moon imagery since they first created the moon option. "The almost uniformly circular nature of impact craters confuses many people. After all, when you throw a rock onto the sand, it might make an oblong “crater.” If impacting bodies come from all different directions, why aren’t most craters elliptical? The catch is, the force released by that hand-thrown rock hitting the sand is nowhere near the force of an asteroid hitting the Moon’s surface. The reason is the extremely high amount of kinetic energy the impactor has – an asteroid may be traveling at tens of kilometers per second, several times the speed of sound! The resulting explosion of the rock vaporizing propagates outward in all directions symmetrically, creating circular craters." SourceAnd yes it is important to create a placemark for anything you might want to take a further look at. Finding things again can be difficult.
