Alana is Breathing :-)

At some time we have all had our own medical emergency or know someone who has.

This post is not related to Google Earth or the Google Earth Community but the story is related to my family. :-)

Alana is my Niece (a daughter of a Younger brother of mine)

Alana is Breathing

Alana has a long way to go at this stage to resume normal life.. All our family have Alana in our thoughts at this time but more thoughts from around the world would be a great help.

Her uncommon blood group meant she was the only patient waiting for B-group lungs but with 11 per cent of New Zealanders having the same blood group, a match was unlikely to arise.



The recovery process will be gruelling. Following an eight-hour operation, Taylor will spend two weeks in hospital before being transferred to a transplant recovery centre for a further three months. Even then, Taylor's body could reject her new lungs.

A bonnie lassie, Norm.  I hope her new lungs give her a new lease of life and bring her a happy future.  

Let's not forget to give thanks to the donor for his/her gift.  Perhaps it may give a few of us a reality check regarding carrying an organ donor card as well.

An Update from my Nephew (Alana's older brother)..

Hey guys, this morning Alana Taylor achieved another milestone by brushing her teeth for the first time and not stopping 20 times to catch her breath, she has also been moved to ward 42 room 11

This is tremendous news  

Great to know that she has resumed a routine task - those make such a difference! Maybe you can let Alan know I have a neighbor who had a lung transplant many years ago. She's in her 70s and still going strong!

Day 7!

Cant believe a week has gone by today! Lungs are going well, currently having a few bowel problems, but hoping to get back on top with that! Thanks for all of the support love everyone and a big thank you to my donor for giving me a healthier new life xoxoxo (Alana's words)

This is really good news..

And my Brother who is up in Auckland with Alana is worried that his lawn needs mowing :-)

14th August...

Day 17, Alana is feeling a lot better walking around, Yesterday we went up stairs to have some after noon tea also a herbal tea.

Alana felt good. Also she couldn't wait to get out of the room. Lol.

Be a few months before she is back here in Christchurch.  But we are looking forward to her coming back

Three weeks after the double lung transplant which saved her life, Alana Taylor is living without fear for the first time.



The Christchurch woman, who has cystic fibrosis, no longer feels exhausted after a shower. Her speech isn't punctuated with staccato coughs. Her nail beds are pink instead of an oxygen-starved white.



After 28 years feeling like she was breathing through a straw, Taylor compares her first breaths with new lungs to being "born again".

Thoughts from around the world by family, friends and others who do not even know Alana have helped in her recovery. To all those known and unknown our family thanks you.

We were at a Family wedding at the weekend (A younger sister (widow for 10 years) remarried) and many of our family were there. (I Was Chief Photographer) :-)
