No longer stoned Det..kmz (1.03 KB) The demolition of much of Detroit, Michigan, is seen when comparing 2010 imagery with the 2015 update. Some time ago I saved a GE screen grab of an abandoned housing project in the Brush Park neighborhood, just because it was amusing. Someone had painted "STONED" on the roof. When, for no particular reason, I went back to the same spot tonight a large portion of the neighborhood was gone. A few city officials and residents of Detroit are reporting some cautious optimism, lately, despite bankruptcy, continuing lack of jobs, loss of population and severe physical decline. The city's former glory as the automobile capital of the world is long gone. No one can predict whether it will ever be a vital, growing city again, but a lot of us are rooting for them. Cheap commercial leases and the chance to acquire a handsome fixer-upper for a few thousand dollars has attracted new people to the city, most of them young entrepreneurs and artists. As neighborhoods of abandoned houses are demolished, some of the acreage is converted to urban farms.
