Time for speculations. Have you checked the Layers recently? What is Coming soon! to the Google earth layers?

As a geology student, I have always dreamed of a geological layer (detailed for NA, Europe and others interesting parts of the world, and on a bigger scale for the rest), but I think that will remain a dream... But aren't there any official news about this new layer? I can't find anything online about this.

I couldn't guess what it is, but when I saw it, I had a pretty good idea of what it isn't.

Hmmm, how odd, maybe you'll have to run this through Fun & Games, Hill. Nice one, washi!

To tell you the truth... I am most interested in finding out when a particular place on the earth will be updated. I am an American with a Filipino wife. We own property and her whole family lives in and near Butuan City in the Philippines, (around 8 degrees 56 hours North and 125 degrees 31 hours E), and I would love to see an update of the area. I know it has not been that long since the last one, April 27, 2013, but it has been more than two years. I have heard a rumor that there will be no more updates. I hope that is not true. If anyone has any information pertaining to this please let me know. Thank you

We know what it is now, A celebration of 10 years of Google earth and a demonstration of displaying information on GE - plus.google.com/+GoogleEarth/posts. Not bad but GE shut down about 2/3 of the way through it.

It's nice to have this finally out of the way. Now maybe someone can get about the important work (i.e., and to wit, pushing my last-and-final-likely-containing-errors-which-I-can-no-longer-do-anything-about GEC Layer placemarks). Seriously (I say "seriously," for the benefit of those who cannot tell that I made a tiny, tongue-in-check joke without labeling it with a smiley face), seriously, I am delighted that Google has decided to continue to support and develop the Google Earth program for desktop computers. GE is an incredibly powerful tool, and for some time I was afraid Google would let it fade away in favor of wimpy, hand-held versions. I'm grateful that they have made the Voyager Layer downloadable. Maybe we can look at the code for a tour with pauses, and learn to make them ourselves.
It's nice that they appear to plan to prepare further editions. The 3D Cities labels (at least in the part of the world where I live) are a real embarrassment, and maybe in the next edition they will take a few moments to consult a map before they lay down their markers.
