Hi First post and all that. I've joined because I've seen something and don't know what it is. Perhaps the more knowledgable people on here will put me straight.
I would have tried to activate the layer first to see if anyone else has marked it but not sure if it's still available with the old forum closure.
Anyway there are strange shapes at 31°28'57.09"N 30° 7'23.36"E and I can't figure them out. I know there are often squares where the scans may come from different sources etc but I don't think these look like that. It even looks like there are shadows at the edges of some lines.
What do you think?

Welcome, nothingoriginal,I see nothing dramatic at that location. Perhaps you copied the coordinates incorrectly. Our forums are designed to take advantage of the geolocation abilities of kml/kmz files. To learn more about how to use them see THIS THREAD..

I can see the shapes even in that image. Zoom in on this and it looks like either a sunken or raised square underwater with shadows on two sides only. square with shadow.kmz (743 B)

I still see nothing there. Maybe you need to clear your cache. See Tools > Options > Cache in the Google Earth top menu. In any case, the ocean view is a model created by satellite gravity readings and bathymetry from ships - it is not a real picture since it is impossible to see more than a few feet into the ocean. For more see THIS POST from the old GEC. For still more click THIS LINK.

If you zoom right in to about 10Km altitude, you can certainly see shapes, but it's just a product of the CG shading of the ocean, akin to pixellation - at this altitude it shows as geometric shapes in a slightly darker shade of blue. The image below shows them, but not as well as on the real GE. No mystery here, I'm afraid!

Thanks
Turning off the water surface helps to show exactly how the sea is made up.

But any GE seabed view is really, really LOW resolution and consequently not a place to find any kind of detail. I see rectangles, truncated squares, L shapes, diamonds et al which are artifacts produced by the low resolution large pixel projection...and the seabed in Google Earth is indeed an artificial projection created from sonar bathymetry, radar and other methods, not photo-imagery.

Viewing from an eye altitude of 53 miles there is a geometric pattern offshore from Abu Qui, both a retcangular grid pattern and circles/ovals a bit further west. You are not seeing the actual ocean bottom so what is causing the pattern is up for grabs.
