In this building (see street view) during WW2, the legendary Norden bombsight was built. It was, at the time, reputed to be able to put a bomb in a pickle barrel from 20,000 feet (!). From here before America entered the war, Nazi spies stole the plans of the sight and sent them back to Germany. Throughout the war the sight was heavily guarded in order to protect its secrets.
