Chateau de Trevarez (known to the Germans as 'Shloss Chateauneuf') is one of the newest chateaux in France. It was requisitioned in 1941 by the Kriegsmarine as a rest area for U-boat crews when they were between patrols. It was deemed safer than Brest (air-raids) and held fewer distractions of the big city. The chateau was bombed by the RAF on July 30, 1944. Street View provides an excellent tour of the grounds.
