The railway from Lindsay to Haliburton (the end-of-the-line) was completed in the late 19th century in an effort to encourage settlement in the Haliburton area. The timing was unfortunate as many of the earlier settlers had abandoned the idea of farming in the area. Thus, the railway was just in time to offer a convenient passage out of Haliburton and on to Manitoba, where land was being offered to settlers. The line can be easily traced from Haliburton, through the bush, to Lindsay. Victoria Railway.kmz (7.61 KB)
