In the News: Flooding [ANSWERED]

There are devastating floods in different parts of the big country:

As it is an unknown village in the middle of nowhere, I imagined a distance pole in the middle of the village.



It reads:

Tienanmen Square 3088 km

Trafalgar Square 5240 km

Taksim Square 4000 km

Times Square 9437 km

Heroes Square (Budapest) 4284 km



I think 3 should be enough but for safety's sake I measured 5, each as it is measured on Google Earth, i.e. "as the crow flies".

I love triangulation so much (NOT! ) that I didn't even try this (triangulation rarely works when I try it). Especially as it means turning on the computer and using Google Earth triangulation which I hate.

But this morning I downloaded a triangulation app to my phone and tried it. Didn't help much at first, I got the wrong place: 1) I didn't find the place, because I didn't use the exact places in the cities, impossible to find in the app 2) when I found a place-name and checked it in GE, GE took me to a totally different place, because that country has like twenty names at most for all of its cities, towns and villages!!! Come on, be a little more creative!

So I browsed the map in the app a bit, around the area it found, in satellite mode, ready to give up and go about my day when suddenly... it was there!

End of my latest exciting story.

Lastly, one thought: amazing how the media in that country all show that same picture from that one tiny place without saying its name when they have dozens of other, bigger flooded places.

If that puzzle required a long search I'm glad I gave up early. If there was a shortcut to the solution I'd like to know it. Don't tell me RIS works on this one...
