{CLUE} The hint I left on the thumbnail map is Baza but more precisely it should be База. It is a former Soviet (and Russian) base at the end of the world.

At least I've become very good at this: knowing instantly when I wont be able to solve a puzzle. Like this one, another one I could have never found, and even with help, still was unable to find. I am posting it anyway, again because I spent time on it. No wonder I couldn't find it though. To find it, you have to: - guess what sort of place it is (that image could be a train engine in Sweden for all I know!) - guess the country - find a list of such places - check the items in the list one by one (there are dozens of such places) - zoom in very close to every spot in the place each time until the green becomes white Too much guessing, too many variables for me. I don't have the knowledge, time, patience, skills or dedication other players have to do all that. I think puzzles should come with a warning of some sort, like a code, from easy to difficult or something. To those who found it, well done.

There is some information about the base on the Wikipedia page of Simushir Island. You can machine translate the Russian version too.

I think it should be required in every solution given to also explain how to solve the puzzle (if it wasn't reverse image searchable). In my humble opinion. duly noted: i "simply" searched for "military base in siberia" in GE (for some reason i was not going to search in tunisia or mexico or even france) and the 5th result was the one

I think it should be required in every solution given to also explain how to solve the puzzle (if it wasn't reverse image searchable). In my humble opinion. duly noted: i "simply" searched for "military base in siberia" in GE (for some reason i was not going to search in tunisia or mexico or even france) and the 5th result was the one True, I didn't see the word baza on my phonescreen, or if I did, it didn't help much. When hhgygy pointed it out to me, I looked it up and it was a romanian word meaning base. Then hhgygy told me it was russian and he made that correction afterwards here in the thread. I must admit I didn't see anything military in the photo. More like a graveyard for abandoned planes or ships maybe. Then hhgygy told me it was an abandoned submarine base in russia, and there are quite a few of those, and the Wikipedia page doesn't give the coords for each one, just the general area. You still had to search every spot on the coastline, zooming in close so as to see the white part... I knew there must have been a shortcut of some sort and you said what it was so thank you for that. I admire a mind who sees these two images, even with the romanian word baza, and immediately thinks: "military base in siberia, search in GE, it'll give me a short list for sure". I am just incapable of thinking that way... I was more inclined to go to Google and search "pile of old rusty engines in some godforsaken cold place", almost.
