The Lockheed XFV-1 Salmon is a single-seater rear starter developed in the USA in the 1950s for interception hunting. A total of 32 flights were carried out before the project was discontinued in June 1955 with the discovery that rear starters were unsuitable. The only airworthy prototype has survived and is in the Florida Air Museum in Lakeland.

As I have already mentioned in the Great, big, beautiful Connie thread, I am not an aircraft fan, but this one has touched me again, however other is the reason why: There is a pocket-book on my bookshelf, published on the same year I was born, 1977 and I have it since I know my senses. I loved to thumb it as a child so the contours and paint deeply have been burnt into my cerebral cortex. ( : With a bit of search I could dig up the exact page online: /cropped, upgraded image from galeriasavaria.hu/ Not the best photo, also that guy flying around is not the very best explained, so I promise will look it up in the evening at home! As have been promised, here you are a sharper photo of the discussed page from my childhood pocket book: At least we got to know that the guy is flying around on a Hiller platform (VZ-1 Pawnee) . (Does anyone heard about it?)
