Richards Bay, South Africa. On August 2013, the 151,000 dwt coal carrier MV Smart ran on a sandbar in 10 meter swells after departing from the port. On board was 147,650 tonnes of coal and 2.000, 1 000 tons of fuel oil and 200 tons of diesel. The 230-meter-long ship broke in two parts, but the crews could be evacuated. The cause of the accident was a machine failure, which made the MV Smart unmanageable. Part of the cargo and oil supplies could be salvaged. Environmental damage did not occur. In Google Earth, the salvage work on the still visible bow can be seen. At the end of 2014, this part also fell. (See timeslider 5/3/2014 - 8/23/2014) Later there were long floating cranes at the place. Attachments:MV Smart.kmz (781 B)
