Not sure if this has been done in the older GEC or not. The imagery however is old. Historical (Dec. 2003) GE View please! May not be easy, so clue, if needed, will be given in 3-4 hours.

Well done hhgygy, Krenek and Walter! As promised here is the clue; The location is placemarked in GE so it should be possible to search for it in Old GEC!

JL I don't have to lay down the exact searches but there is a special thread/collection in GEC where such things are placemarked/listed and it can easily found there!

I found a post in the right forum that mentions the city, but when I click on it I get a list of totally different posts... I did see the name of the city, but no address or coords. I scanned the city a bit (in the 2003 imagery) and found places that look like your image, but I didn't find the "great" roofs. So I have to give up for now.

I have searched the old forum for a while, I have seen hundreds of collections but none containing this one, and "great" is too generic keyword. Obviously I have tried others, but with no luck. Plus, I am having an hard time understanding how the old forum is structured, it's really counterintuitive to me. I will have to wait for another hint

After freezing old GEC Google are now seems to have taken it as a cadaver and experimenting on it. The new format is hopeless. It is not easy to get Expanded View in Chrome or Opera or Firefox. The expanded view works only in IE. Here is another clue which doesn't involve old GEC. "Great" can also be found in another web site which exclusively showcases images from GE and GSV etc. However as "Great" is a very generic term some additional text has to be added in it for meaningful result!

The expanded view works only in IE. After ‘switching to the old design’, I clicked the Topic options icon (arrow in circle) and selected ‘Expand thread’, which works fine. My browser is Firefox.

Hey, can we have the solution of this? It remains still a mistery to me. I know it was described in the old forum, I also downloaded the GEC Layer on GE with all the "i"s, but I have no idea how to browse/search for keywords in that database

I know it was described in the old forum, I also downloaded the GEC Layer on GE with all the "i"s, but I have no idea how to browse/search for keywords in that database Here is a clue specially for ndrqu. Did you try searching for the key word in the old GEC Huge & Unique?. If not try it and you should get the answer. Obviously you will have to discount some other great objects like the Great Wall etc. Another way of finding it is to search for following in Google Image Search, where xxxx is a 4 letter word and it is not "text" Great xxxx site:virtualglobetrotting.com
