A 20-minute exchange of cannon fire was the only military engagement in which this fort would be directly involved. Little damage and no deaths. However, once the fort was taken by the opposing force, the area's harsh environment took the lives of over 200 soldiers. This place was used as a staging area for the successful capture of an important port city during the war. As with most old historic fortresses, this place is now a tourist attraction.

This fortress was named after the ship that initially fired cannons at it. My sister-in-law lived in the port city until a famous hurricane devastated the area. |
