Hello! I would like to know what are these interesting shapes on the ground in Hungary. Maybe some error? Or masked area? I'm a GIS specialist but absolutely no idea. My only information is there was reed before. ( KMZ) Thank You!

hi and welcome! if you serch location with MePAR (Hungarian electronic Parcell Identification System) also if check GE time-slider function you can see the site has been cultivated from at least 2006. (how do you know there was reed? - if it was, then could be just for a smaller interval of time) the screenie you have uploaded shows a cultivated state too, and they are just right after some stubble burning right there I think. small piles of straw have been ignited then desintegrated for better results of complete burn. at first I thought some low-scale, hand-made manuring but the plot is a bit too large (4,78 hectares) for such a method.

as being not 100% sure even in the burning concept I have been thinking a lot, that where on Earth could I have seen such pattern? finally it flashed in: (: of course the sand dunes' natural pattern in the Sahara has nothing to do with the case south of Zalaszentiván, where results of some human activity can be seen. burn or manuring or something else...(?)

Hello syzygy! És köszönöm a választ. If these are dunes, they have to stand in the direction of wind , but I can't recognize any regularity. Your first (two) tipp was better with the burning area and the manur, but the shapes are still stranges. I gess the "good morning pálinka" was too strong. Thank You your help, but I want to keep open this question for a while, for the ultimate answer (42, as everybody knows). Üdv, B. Edit: About the reed. My colleague who sended the coordinates heard about the reed field. She is a Landscape Architect, and at the moment she has some project somewhere here.

My colleague who sended the coordinates heard about the reed field. do not misundertand me, only the shapes that reminded me to dunes of star type, still I have the feeling I have already seen such features you have presented on cultivated site before, only cannot recall where and when... about the reed: on the agricultural plot in question, there is cultivation at least from 3/21/2006 (oldest GE imagery date), but there was reed and still there is to the S of it, as can be seen also on GE- or GMaps StreetView: the reed patch by the road and the cultivated parcell (under investigation) in the background: the reed patch outlined: your colleague must have seen that reed by the road, but also on StreetView imagery (11/2011) the cultivated parcell is visible in the background. (if you keep going ahead to the village, after the junction, a rampart blocks the sight of the parcell to the right.)

manuring theory seems to take advantage. other example from Italy - similar pattern, but now tracks are leading to a farm: manure Italy.kmz (702 B)
