This file is a collection of air transportation (in flight!) in Google Street View, including helicopters (military and civilian), airplanes (military and civilian), aerostats (blimps and the like), and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). Each find is coded by color and icon type. Each find can be viewed directly within Google Earth (version 6+) or viewed in Google Maps with a direct link from within the placemark. Note: Google Earth, so far, does not save the zoom level of a street view find, so some finds may need to be zoomed in on Google Earth. Their proper zoom level is saved on Google Maps, so if you cannot see it on Google Earth, it should be visible on Google Maps. If not; the image is outdated, and I'll update it in a future version. Note 2: Due to Terrain, some images will flicker. Please TURN OFF terrain (GE 6) or change Elevation exaggeration to 0.01 (GE 7+). Double click the icon or move around the image until the flickering stops.
As of right now: ● 2171 total finds (65 Aerostat, 1867 Airplane, 232 Helicopter, 7 UAV) ● 84 countries, 11 territories, and 50 USA states + D.C. ● 332 Aircraft Types (261 airplane, 71 helicopter) ● 566 Airlines/Organizations (including 122 dysfunctional ones) ● 107 Military/Government Operators ● 138 Special Liveries ● 16 Airshows / Aerobatic Teams ● 12 Skywriting / Aerial Advertising ● 19 PTM (Prototypes/Test Flights/Manufacturer Owned) Additional, but lower quality finds: [Currently: ~3250 finds]: Lower Quality Finds 3250.kmz (396.85 KB) I'm not updating these in any way, so many of these may no longer be there

Question to the moderators: this collection is currently a Network link that pulls it's data (a static kmz file) from a separate Google Earth forum that hosts the file. When I release a new version, I update the file on that forum which the network link will then pull from. I don't know how long that forum will stay up (it's been limping along for years) and have been looking for a new place to put the static file. In order for the network link to work, the file needs a url and it needs to always keeps the same name, even when I update the file. Do you know if this forum has that capability? Otherwise, if the host forum goes down, I'll need people to re-download the collection every time I release an update.

Hi spider, it's not possible to store the file here and link to it.
I'd suggest looking at Google Sites. You don't need to create a public site to use the storage. You can upload an attachment and it will be stored with the original name so that you can upload a new version with the same name when you've updated the file.
DropBox may work too, but I'm not too familiar with that.
I would not recommend using Google Drive, they make it difficult to get a usable link, and you can't upload a new version of a file and keep the same link.

Wow - first update in 921 days!
Before, the objective had always been to find as many airplanes, helicopters, and aerostats as possible. However, with the frequent SV updates, the huge amount of finds, how long it takes to update them, and how much imagery there is to cover, this is no longer the case. From now on, I'm only keeping the best finds, anything where the object is clearly visible without needing to zoom. I did however keep at least 1 find from each country, even if it did not fall under the "high quality" benchmark.
555 New Finds: 5 aerostats, 504 airplanes (445 civilian, 59 military), and 47 helicopters (26 civilian, 21 military)
20 new countries/territories: Albania, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Ghana, Greenland (Denmark), Guatemala, Kenya, Laos, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Guam [USA], Puerto Rico [USA]

any ideas how to solve, or won't you attach collection as a simple kmz folder?

Hi syzygy, Thanks for the heads up - if you're having issues, others probably will too. It works on my end - do other Network links work for you? Or maybe the host I'm using was down. The network link is pulling from this URL, see if that works: www.gearthhacks.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&act=down&id=35747I'm also attaching the file as a .kmz to my topmost post, so you can just download it directly with no problems as well!

Current wishlist: - A decent (or better) quality find in Wyoming, USA
- A decent (or better) quality find in Ecuador
- A decent (or better) quality find in Uruguay
- Antonov AN-225
- More historical planes (such as any from the Collings Foundation's collection)
- More aviation festivals/air shows
- Any planes in special livery
- A plane in DHL Aviation livery
If you can find an aircraft in flight in any of the above categories, I'd be super happy. They're pretty hard to find though, so good luck!

Working on another update; still trying to catch up to the massive December 16th update (only have Texas and California left to do). Should be out by the end of this month (maybe end of next week). Sadly, I still haven't found a single DHL plane in flight. Sneak peak at update: Here's British Airways' Airbus A380-841 [G-XLEC]

Cool find with the Skywriting! It's hard to read, but I can make out the words "Neck" and "Hot". Looks like it's only one plane doing the "writing" in this case. Looks like dot-matrix skywriting, which is a newer method. "It works just as you'd expect. The airplane(s) have computer controlled smoke generators, several to a plane, and put out puffs of smoke instead of drops of ink. It's exactly like a dot matrix printer, just lower res and bigger." www.quora.com/How-does-dot-matrix-skywriting-work
