The fence on the north side of this street is constructed of surplus medical stretchers left over from WW2. Over 600.000 of these stretchers were fabricated before the war in order to deal with the anticipated bombing of London and Britain. Rockingham Street and the intersecting Bath Terrace are lined on both sides with these curiosities. (My thanks to Robert J Dalby FRAS for pointing this out).
