Hi! Just have read an article about growing deltas in Atchafalaya Bay and checking location on GE I have found this: In the shallow water, double row of poles, aligned to a 60 / 50 meters long right-angle. (also other strange object next to it on most recent GE imagery) It has already been there in 1989. artifact Atchafalaya Delta.kmz (881 B) Have browsed there-and-back, but could not spot any similar structure so far... Any explanation anyone? Thanks! g

well, it is a listed dead-zone. (check GE/Ocean/Dead Zones layer)
I do not think anyone would have built such a quite big equipment for fishing in lack of fish.
(or "dead-zone" does not equal to "there is no (much) fish"?)

Quite so without fish, the delta does not seem to be. The German Wiki says: "It is an important fishing place for shrimp, crabs and crayfish." The tides could be helpful as well. Shrimp trawlers can be seen in the "dead zone" anyway.

thank you willi1 taking the trouble, however still I cannot imagine, how this could work as a fishtrap... and why no more examples of similar structures then? also notice, that there are many imagery dates available for this location, but on none we see any other activity or equipment. (except the strange object on most recent imagery)
besides you may be right, I will wait for further responses.

Hi leong and welcome to the GE Community! It seems, you came here to liquidate my " what the hecks" thread (for my greatest pleasure), giving explanations to my random findings one by one. How on earth have you bumped into this, also taking the trouble to register and give your answers? Anyhow, your replies make sense in most cases and I am really glad to see my old posts revived! (I am to do my replies for each one later as can manage to take some time.) *** In this case both poles-structure and location fits your contribution - so by best bet now these are about crawfish trapping. *** Thanks for this, for the others and also for the forthcomings to You - Léon the professional(?)! (: g
