... he sadly died, at a young age. I always thought he took ill after falling through the ice on his sledge in December, but I just read that it was probably some other grave illness that caused his death. Now for the slightly harder part of this puzzle. His 400th birthday was commemorated with a wall stone with a short quotation which became a much used proverb.

Well done all! Dutch poet and playwright Gerbrand Adriaensz. Bredero (BRAY-duh-ro), 1585-1618. On the title page of his works he called himself “Gerbrand Adriaensz. Bredero(de), Amsterdammer”. Sculpture: Nieuwmarkt, Amsterdam 52.3732°N, 4.9008°E Wall stone in De Nes, the street where Bredero was born: 52.3714°N, 4.8937°E
