Hohenlychen sanatorium was founded in 1902 as a T.B. hospital for children. During its long history (it was captured by the Soviets in 1945) it underwent many transformations. Among these were an early sports medicine facility in preparation for the 1936 Olympics, and a hospital for injured or wounded SS men. During WW2 Doktor Karl Brandt conducted medical experiments on prisoners from nearby Ravensbruck. (Brandt was executed as a war criminal). Heinrich Himmler convalesced here after his short-livedl career as Commander of Army Group Vistula (January - March 1945). Albert Speer was treated here in 1944 for a knee injury and depression. Himmler met Count Folke Bernadotte at this hospital in an effort to free Scandanavian prisoners and to begin peace negotiations with the Western allies. The facility has been abandoned since the end of the war. The video shows the present day buildings. All in all, quite a history of notorious patients and inhumane treatments! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohenlychen_Sanatoriumthirdreichtours.wordpress.com/berlin/hohenlychen-sanatorium/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Himmler#Military_commanderHohenlychen- A Sanatorium with a History..kmz (1.34 KB)
