The 35th Infantry Division entered the European Theater of Operation in World War 2 on July 5-7 on the Normandy Beaches. By chance and by design they were participants of many parts of the war in Europe including Operation Cobra (Saint Lô); the Lorraine Campaign; the Battle of the Bulge; the final campaign into Germany from late February 1945 to the end of the war. Being under the command of Gen. Patton from July 1944 through the end of January 1945, highlights of battle include: Mortain Patton's Third Army's famous "Blitz Across France" Battle of the Forest of Chateau Salins Battle of the Bulge / including attached to the 4th Armored and 6th Armored Division's opening of the besieged Bastogne Liberation of Venlo, Holland Battle of the Ruhr Pocket Crossing of the Rhine and drive into the heart of Germany Dash to the Elbe River Bridgehead across the Eble River I hope you enjoy these placemarks, paths and polygons as much as I did putting it all together. Below: Just south of Bastogne, Belgium soldiers of the 35th Inf Division lay in their snow covered gun position during the Battle of the Bulge. Hi, Chuck! I had just sent you a message inviting you here! So glad you didn't need any arm-twisting. This is a great addition to the History forum. You no doubt have this link already in placemarks, but I'll just add it here as a teaser for other members: 35th Infantry Division in WWII

Hi chuckster, If you add an image to your post, it would show up if promoted on FB or G+, easier to promote. And welcome over.

This multiple placemark just recently was added to GEC. I wonder how this happened? It was cool beans for me to see it! (and yes this is a shameless bump)
