I wasn't planning another Borges puzzle, I was just reading an online piece about some French town and was surprised to see a photo of a Borges poem, translated, on a fence. (The original title is 'La joven noche', The young night, not The widowed / bereaved night, as the French suggests.) It's a short (10 lines) meditation on being blind, which isn't all bad in Borges's erm... view.

  well, the original translation in my "Oeuvres complètes" de Borgès ( Pléiade) of "La Joven noche" is "La Nuit neuve", "The New Night" (joven/jeune/young ≈ neuve/new in poems) ...meaning someone made an error on the fence as our dear friend bridgeplayer noticed! (" veuve" means "widow" indeed) |
