In the autumn of 1945 the British gathered, with some difficulty, enough parts to build eight V2/A4 rockets. Equipment and trained personnel with V2 experience were assembled and three launches were carried out. This location was selected because it had been a test range (naval guns and V1 missiles) and tracking radars were in place. A contemporary map shows the launch site beside the road, on the eastern side. Almost all traces of the launch site have been removed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Backfire_(World_War_II)A comprehensive visual account of 'Backfire'. Highly detailed written account of the entire operation. www.v2rocket.com/start/chapters/backfire.htmlOperation Backfire- British V2s..kmz (1.17 KB)
