Between 1941 and 1944 this former sugar beet factory became an SS training camp for collaborationist auxiliary police. The graduates went on to serve as staff in various concentration and death camps. They became known as 'Trawniki men'. The western half of the camp was a prison for 12,000 Jews used for forced labour. The eastern portion housed the trainee SS men. A few original buildings still exist.
