Good for the others but I still can't find it. I've tried all sorts of combinations since the beginning but had to give up. I don't know how bridgeplayer can say the (first) clue "was enough to recognize the guy", because it wasn't enough for me.... And knowing the possible town(s) isn't helping. Well, not in Google at least. I suspect I must first find who this guy might be, but I rack my brain and cannot think of any visitor, Russian, or from Russia, or to Russia. I hope you have some other clue in store, Walter.

thanks for the clue even if i did not use it, i was there (or almost) from the beginning but i missed this one, sigh... interesting story! - - - SIGH...
this morning, it seems that the old google maps is dead (for me at least)
so far, i'm not very happy with the new one too slow, 3-D (?), freezes, too many boxes, features that miss, it's a real pain... and a shame

You're good, you're really good. Or you already knew who the statue is supposed to be, maybe? I've been coming back to this one several times since Walter posted it and I don't get it, and I don't get why everybody seems to think it's easy.

Clue for the others: A clue from "the good old days" From where I'm sitting, Walter, the arrow points to several things: the statue, the roof of the building, your name, and the names of two towns. If the statue is in one of these towns you have to do something because it won't appear in Google Images with the simplest keywords or even more complicated ones. This thing should be more advertized!!!

Chess? Oh, I give up. What can I say? You solved the museum challenge. Well done. But have a look at the clue there. It was similar. And, because you solved that one, you should be able to find what the clue in this challenge is trying to do ...

And, because you solved that one, you should be able to find what the clue in this challenge is trying to do ... Yes, I saw the clue there, but I solved that one without the clue, if you remember... but ok, from what I understand of it, the arrow is pointing to... what the place is about? Not sure if that's what you mean. The worst part is, it will probably be a duh moment when I know the solution. But sometimes the brain goes in the wrong direction and it just won't turn around and take a fresh start. I'm stuck. I'd better sleep on it.

JohnLuke - I'm sorry I disappeared again earlier - I was using my phone and didn't see who was online (or that you were the only one online). I would have stayed and kept you company if I had known Krenek - yes, the old Google maps is gone Its replacement is very hard to use, but hopefully we'll get used to it with time. If you want, you can join the complaints in the Help Forum but it would be better to give useful feedback in the hope that the engineers will listen and make changes. BdJ

OK, I know who it is now, have known it for one hour, thanks to Walter's clue which I had to solve too (I'll tell you how I found it, you'll laugh!) but it's past 1:00 a.m. and I can't find WHERE IT IS in the city! NO ONE said the address of where they took the photo!!! I am NOT - repeat: NOT - going to search the whole city, or any part of the city said to be more likely to have the statue. I need an address and that's it! I reeeeaaaally want to know how anyone could find this without knowing who the satue was. I mean, it could be 100 different people from History! Russian or not (the clue didn't necessarily mean he was russian). Same with the place. OK, Europe, but apart from that, no way to know where! So tell me now, how did you find it without a clue? Even if you know who (but how?) it's impossible to find if you don't know where! And if you know where, there are hundreds of statues there! And even with the 1st clue, if you didn't know who, it was impossible too! I need some sleep. Good night.

I actually feel quite bad that I've found this knowing that JohnLuke is still struggling. Once I worked out all the clues and using some basic search words, I found the image of the statue, then, like JL, I had to find the location of the statue - and that was pure luck, just searching over and over until I found an image with the approximate location.

Elusive b****d! Found a HD photo of the place. Zoomed in to see the name of a carpark. Looked for carparks in GE. Bingo. It is now 2:04 a.m. Don't expect me on F&G too early tomorrow.

Isn't this wonderful? It's just like the 'good old days.' Ah, such nostalgia... Walter still solving every puzzle thrown at him - Google Image Reverse, Geody, Geonames, Google Earth Hacks, Virtual Globetrotting, etc... don't cut much ice with Walter. And JL is still... well, JL. Love it!! I believe Walter_V_R is the creator of all those sites. He's the one who finds all your images for you when you search for an image or a place. You think it's all computer networks and sophisticated software and algorithms, but no, it's Walter typing away on his laptop, working only with his memory, knowledge and a few maps spread out around him.
