In my experience, at the end of every tour and visit there is a gift shop. I think the trend started from America. I found that even famous Churches there have separate entry and exits and just before the exit there is always a souvenir/gift shop.

I love buying souvenirs after excursions. My family and I often go to monasteries. There are many souvenir shops. We usually purchase small icons, wish-fulfilment bracelets, and water from holy springs. Sometimes I bring souvenirs from my travels to my family. I have a few magnets that I got back as a souvenir. I don't think a souvenir can be considered a good gift for a birthday, Christmas, or any other holiday. Perhaps it can be an addition to the main gift, but no more than that. I prefer to give sweet baskets or gift boxes. I think anyone would be happy with such a gift. Most of the time, I order such baskets at www.jetgiftbaskets.com/.
