This war-time luxury villa (now a children's centre) was, during WW2, the 'Abwehr Ubersee Funkzentral', the short wave radio service for overseas spies and agents. Abwehr translates to 'defense against foreign espionage'. (German Military Intelligence). Broadcast was carried out on Diestelstrasse. two kilometers away in Ohlstadt; reception in the villa. During its wartime peak some 22-25 operaters were employed. There were 9 reception antenna arrays with 10 transmitting. I do not know the location of these structures. It was active, for instance, in preparation for 'Operation Barbarossa', the invasion of Russia. It linked agents in North and South America, Africa and the Middle and Far East. www.geschichtsspuren.de/artikel/fernmeldeaufklaerung-eloka-sigint/143-agentenfunk-abwehr-hamburg.htmlKupferhof- Abwehr Radio Communication Centre..kmz (1.22 KB)
