This is the Kola Superdeep Borehole, Kol'skaya Sverkhglubokaya Skvazhina. (69°23'47.5"N 30°36'36.4"E). It was the deepest drilled hole on the planet at the time. There have been rumors that the crew heard "voices" from the hole giving it the nickname "The Well to Hell".
