The Vought F7U Cutlass was a jet-propelled US Navy fighter from the early days of the Cold War. Between 1950 and 1955 over 300 of this fighter were built. A surviving specimen (serial number 129642) is in the restoration section of the Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum in Horsham, Pennsylvania. This F7U-3 belonged to a group of Ex-VA-12 aircraft that were flown to NAS Willow Grove in May 1957 to attend an air show. Upon arrival, the aircraft was taken out of active service. It was transferred to the Marinereservat for use as a ground training aircraft and finally placed as a gate guard in front of the base on US Route 611. The total flight time of the airframe is only 326 hours. A cosmetic revision is currently underway to restore the display status.
