If this is not new information, please accept my apologies. I've only just learned of it when switching from new to classic Google Maps to investigate something.

The Learn more link includes this:

Soon, the updated version of Google Maps will become your desktop Maps experience. You'll no longer be able to use the older, classic Google Maps.

I know of at least one long term member of the GEC who is going to be really disappointed with this. Sorry, CJM.
