Petticoat Junction was a television comedy in the 1960's. The main focus of the show was a small group of people at an inn named the Shady Rest. The nearest town was Hooterville; and the only way to arrive at the Shady Rest was by train, the Hooterville Cannonball.
It was never stated exactly where Hooterville or Petticoat Juction were located. Internet research reveals that parts of the show were filmed near Pixley, California, and that the Cannonball was actually a tour train in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. One end of the Cannonball's route, was named for Pixley, California. The exact location of Hooterville is never mentioned. But the landscape images in the opening scene look very similar to the Sierra Foothills. Placemarked here is near Jamestown, near Sonora. Furthermore, there is a famous tour train out of Jamestown, as well as Railtown 1897 State Historic Park, and a tour train.
in episode 1 they state that Hooterville is at one end of the line, and that Pixley is at the other end of the line. Pixley is near Fresno. Also, in the first train shot in the video of the opening, the train is rolling among Foothill Pines (P. sabiniana), not native to Oregon; and in the second train shot its rolling among oaks. The landscape tooks far more like the Sierra foothills than anyplace in Oregon.
Furthermore, I typed Pettycoat Junction, Hooterville, and The Shady Rest, into the search browser and all results came up for Pixley, CA, and no results for Oregon.

There is oportunity here for a study in literature/ in this case performing arts and environment. As television was introduced in 1948 there was much reflection on rural life in America, with shows such as Lassie, The Real McCoys, The Andy Griffith Show, and several westerns. But in as little as 15 years shows became popular about space travel, robots, and computers, and country folk were portrayed as buphoons.
