Moving on up the west coast of Scotland, these are the Civic Memorials for the Fallen of the Western Isles. I believe that the Isle of Lewis had the highest percentage population of war dead of the British Empire, a sobering thought in such a small community. Once again my thanks to the Scottish War Memorials Project for the information and to Google Street View for the images.

These are the Civic War Memorials for the county of Moray. Thanks to the Scottish War Memorials Project for the information, and to (mainly) Google Street View for the images. Images other than SV are individually credited in the placemarks. Attachments:Morayshire36.kmz (6.38 KB)

These are the Civic Memorials for Aberdeenshire, and there are a lot of them... Thanks to The Scottish War Memorials Project members for the information, and to Google Street View for the majority of the images. Cheers, Frank Attachments:Aberdeenshire27.kmz (18.34 KB)

Frank, I see what you mean about the Isles of Lewis. I can't believe such a small area has so many memorials, and many that I looked at had a very long list of names. All of those good, strong farm boys...
I am enjoying your updates.

Covering the top 1/3 of the Scottish mainland, these are the Civic Memorials for the Highlands; there's a lot of them, and quite hard to find, sometimes. Thanks again to the SWMP and Google Street View. Scotland is gradually filling up!

Orkney and Shetland, this time, with thanks to the Scottish War memorial Project and Google Streetview. Plus a few other photo contributors, since the SV car hasn't yet visited many of the smaller islands.

Well, I've been busy with other projects, but I managed to find a few hours to add some more War Memorials. These are the Civic War Memorials for Glasgow and Dunbartonshire, with thanks to the Scottish War Memorials Project for the information, and (mainly) Google Street View for the images. Any other images used have been individually credited. This just about completes the Civic War Memorials for Scotland, although I have still to recheck the SWMP forum for any new memorials that may have been added during the (looonnnggg) period that I have been putting together this collection. In addition, these .kmz files just show the Civic War Memorials for Scotland. As well as the Civic Memorials, there are also School Memorials, Church Memorials, Regimental and Unit Memorials, Individual Memorials and Rolls of Honour. But I'll leave those for another day! At the outset of this project I commented that Lockhopper had a huge task on her hands to complete the whole of the UK. Well, it's taken me nearly a year, on and off, to do just the Civic Memorials for Scotland; when you consider that Scotland has less than 10% of the UK population, it has certainly given me a glimpse of the scale of her project. I salute her, wish her well in her endeavours and hope that my small contribution has helped her on her long and weary - but immensely worthwhile - way! Cheers, Frank

Wow Frank, you have been busy.
I've been taken away from the project by other things too. Hope to get back on it in a few weeks time. Did find these on Monday when we visited the London Bus Museum at Brooklands. The notice explains why they are there.

Lockhopper, it's shocking to see how many people just one company lost in two wars. Sorry, I couldn't read the sign for more of the story.
Great work from both of you! I am amazed by each update.

This file contains the .kmz for all of the Scottish Civic War Memorials, all of the individual counties that I have been posting as they were completed. Anyone is welcome to use it and modify it as needed, as long as it's not for profit, you give due credit to the Scottish War Memorials Project for their hard work in collecting and recording all this information, and you don't delete any of the image credits it contains.
