Hollingbury Hill Top EnclosureThis site is potentially a tad more complex than the other hill top enclosures I have posted so I have made it a separate thread. The kmz should open with an outline of the camp which also shows the position of some huts and mounds. (edit - 12/12/2016 the huts may be pits but huts look better There are four sub-folders containing my interpretation of the huts and the mounds. The large hut is inhabited to give an idea of scale. If you double click and enable the placemark labelled ‘View point’ then enable the folder Ridge Barrows you will see all of the local ridge barrows I know of in the area. Now right click placemark ‘View point’ and choose ‘Show Viewshed’. After a while you will see all of the locations that are visible from ‘View point’. Equally important, you will also see the locations not visible from ’View point’. I have asked local archaeologists if the fact that all the ridge barrows are visible from the Hollingbury enclosure and no barrows are built where they cannot be seen is a coincidence or not. None have been brave enough to express an opinion so I shall ask the same question here and see what happens. Hollingbury.kmz (715.54 KB)
