Ireland to Plant Largest Grove of Redwood Trees Outside of California
An estate in Ireland has revealed plans to create a redwood grove that will be the largest of its kind outside California.
The initiative, Giants Grove, is spearheaded by the seventh Earl of Rosse, Brendan Parsons and the environmental organization Crann, which promotes the preservation of trees, hedgerows and woodlands throughout Ireland. The Earl has designated land on the grounds of the Birr Castle Gardens in Offlay to house around 2,000 redwoods, making it the biggest forest outside of California.
Birr Castle Gardens is one of Ireland’s premier tourist attractions renowned for their collection of trees from around the world

If you count European parks where Redwoods are scattered then about German Arboretum Burgholz. Over 200 ha with "exotic" trees, and Giant Sequoias (and some places, Redwoods) scattered all over the place, estimate that even only the parcels with GiSeq and / or Sequoia as main tree (even in mixture), are more than the 8 ha of the Birr project.
And there are others. For example there are extensive Redwood plantations in NZ. the total area of GiSeq in Burgholz ist in the magnitude of 10 ha, plus at least 1 ha Redwood.
At Blackforest, Freiburg city is Arboretum Güntertal, belonging to the City Forest Freiburg, in a grove-like situation in steep slopes of the close mountains. At least 5 ha in one place, and several large groups in many other close-by places, plus many single trees or small groups along the forest roads. Again, not straight more than 8 ha in one place, but it will apear as a larger "Giant Sequoia" area one day. Not like Giant Forest, or Redwood Mountain, but still, ike a grove.
