Well done all! Answer >> On 13 March 1879 the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins found that the trees lining the river Thames near Binsey, Oxfordshire were “all felled”, and that very evening he started work on his poem Binsey Poplars, which contains the lines

and

Which was not really true, because the old poplars were replaced and the new ones lasted till 2004, after which they were again replaced.
