This labour camp (Arbeitslager) has an interesting history. Originally established in May 1943 as a sub camp of Auschwitz ((35 km/21 miles south east) it imprisoned 1374 workers who laboured in the nearby armament factory making anti-aircraft artillery. At the end of WW2 it was taken over by the NKVD and used as a prison for Silesians, Germans and Poles who.the Russians and Poles felt, had supported the Third Reich. Approximately 6000 prisoners were kept here under appalling conditions, including torture: of these 1855 died. The Communist version of the camp lasted from February 1945 until November of the same year.( I first learned of this camp from a BBC documentary 'The Savage Peace'.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zgoda_labour_campen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eintrachth%C3%BCtte_concentration_campZgoda Labour Camp.kmz (2.66 KB)
