The Desert King Spring and Mine area was an interesting location. The mining operation included several large wood water tanks and coopered wood pipes to carry water from the spring. The mine was some distance up a peak approximately to the West of the spring area, and an ingenious ore cart railway brought the ore down from the mine, over a cleft in a large rock near the water location. Wagons were situated under the rails at the base of the rock, and the ore fell from the cart into the wagon beds. The mine interior was complex, and included more than one level, with air shafts and branching tunnels. The only evidence of that operation now is the plant life at the spring (next to the placemark pin), and several roads/trails. There is an area approximately 2Km to the West of the spring with the appearance of tailings, however, no mine entrance is visible. This location is inside the Fort Irwin boundary.
