On March 22, 2014 this hillside gave away and slid into this group of houses resulting in 43 deaths. I have carefullly tried to identify houses only, excluding garages, sheds and barns. Set the time slider to 7/2013 to view the area before the slide; the latest (3/2014) depicts the aftermath. It should be noted that even many of the outliers which escaped the mud are now flooded by the river. If you look carefully you can see a power shovel clearing Highway 530.

Hi Larryc1 Very interesting post. When you look at the time slider you can see that this area is a high risk landslide area. The USGS map prepared by Ralph A. Haugerud (USGS) confirms this:
